I'm confused...

I read the book and it was great. It gave me so much hope. I have spent years trying to get someone to point blank tell me that the myelin can be repaired. I decided that I would really do some sort of serious elimination diet and have been drinking green smoothies for breakfast and lunch. I thrown in some kale or romaine lettuce, celery, grapes or a pear or pineapple to sweeten, sometimes a bit of ginger, cucumber, sometimes a some Boku Superfoods powder, a tblsp of lecithin granules and a tblsp of brewers yeast. I was so hopeful that this would be the answer. I'm not sure what else I can do if the whole green smoothie thing doesn't work out. I think I have gone downhill a bit in the past few days. My balance was very bad yesterday. Oh and I'm also including a tblsp of Udo's Oil for my EFA's. Any thoughts on why I'm not at least staying stable here? I do feel a bit better today but I haven't eaten anything. I'm so confused about what I can eat. I'm afraid to eat anything. I'm experiencing some trigeminal neuralgia right now and it seems worse then the last flare of it a year ago so I am desperate to find something to repair the myelin.

Thanks for your

Thanks for your encouragement.

I don't go by particular recipes. I just cook things that go with the diet. Chicken, veggies, rice, quinoa, fish, etc. He eats a gluton-free cereal from Bakery on Main that is delicious!!

We have just recently put him back on eggs. It does not seem to have had any effect.

At this point, I think we are going to start adding back in the things he has been off of. Even though we haven't seen any positive results from being off them, we might see negative results as he gets back on them. That might be the only way we will know that he is actually allergic to any of it.

I don't know if the elisa test works well if you have been off something for a long time. Seems I have read that it doesn't. So we might need to get him back on everything and then do the test.

There was no difference in his last MRI.

I wish you the best in your experience of the diet!

Sheila

Hello Sheila. I just wanted

Hello Sheila. I just wanted to offer some support. This is such a frustrating disease, and i know we all want to see results as soon as possible. If your husband has been following the diet strictly, then i would suggest having an elisa test. I had mine about 3 years ago, but in all honesty did`nt really follow its findings till i started the recovery diet, which was 7 months ago. I also have problems walking, i have to use crutches, and a wheelchair for distances, but i can honestly say i have started to improve, but it has taken the 7 months to start seeing progress, and although minimal, it`s enough to keep me motivated.
Can i ask what your husband eats in a typical day? We need to help and support each other, and the only way to do this is to see what we are all doing!!!! I`m British, so i must admit the recipe section to me is quite Alien, but i`ve adapted to my own way of eating. I firmly believe it takes a good 6 months to find what suits, this has definately been the case for me. Your husband would`nt be human if he was`nt sceptical, especially if he`s suffered relapses on the diet. Is he stressed? as this can bring on attacks, also if he`s feeling depressed it plays havoc with our unique systems.
Think back to Bryon in the book, he went 12 months on the diet without any improvement, and he still kept going. I also think most of us believe Ann and Judi improved quickly, but on re- reading the book, it was actually 3 years for Ann, and Judi will tell you she`s still healing now!!!
Please feel free to ask any questions and i will do my best to help you any way i can. Also, can i just add you are a credit to your husband for taking the time to seek help, sometimes our partners get forgotten as we fight our demons, but we would`nt get by without you!!!!.
Kind regards Sarah.

We relate to Joyce's

We relate to Joyce's confusion...and discouragement...

My husband has been on the diet for eight months. He uses a scooter because walking is very difficult---stiff legs, lack of balance, etc. We have not seen any real change for the good. He is on provigal, so we don't know if the fact that he does not always have to take a nap (like he used to) is because of the diet or the provigal. We have added eggs back in during the last week. We don't see any change for the bad in adding them back in.

He is a little discouraged about the diet...or maybe skeptical is a better word. Prior to being on the diet, he had not had an MS attack in five years. Then within the last two months, he has had two attacks. Could the diet be triggering these attacks? We are concerned about making things worse with being on the diet. Maybe his body needs something that he is not eating.

Should he go to a allergy doctor and get a test to see what he might really be allergic to? We are sort of at a loss as to what to do next...

Hi! I don't really have a

Hi!

I don't really have a whole lot to add, except try not to be discouraged. Ann & Judi talk in their book of how some people experience flare-ups before getting better. This was true for me. Just hang in there.

I did have a question about the Brewer's Yeast though. I am not familiar with it... it it different from regular yeast (that we are not allowed to have)? If so, how? I was just curious.

All the best!

Hi ippokabos and Sarah as

Hi ippokabos and Sarah as well. Thanks so much for your replies. I probably should mention that I drink the veggies shakes for breakfast and lunch and I try to have a healthy dinner such as grilled chicken with a salad, scallops with some fried spinach, garlic and olive oil. I do have some whey protein that I purchased from Bryron Richards Wellness Resources and I do make an occasional banana and almond milk shake. I've always been concious of the need for protein. Oh btw, I take a few tblsps of Udo's oil daily. Thanks for all your tips. I'll look into some of the things I am not doing presently. Oh and yes, I have organic nuts and try to eat them daily as well. I've never had linseeds and am not quite sure what they are. I'm not giving up yet but was just so puzzled by the fact that I was eating so simply and still think I'm inflamed as I feel it in my shins. I'm determined to get this all turned around. I've been doing well for many years and it's just puzzling to me why all of a sudden this is happening. I suspect that there is more going on here and perhaps a leaky gut syndrome might be in play.

Hi Joyce Everybody is

Hi Joyce
Everybody is discouraged when efforts don't bring results. You can see it as an opportunity to experiment within the same frame. I will share an experience I had lately: I visited a very good dietologist and found out that her approach is consistent to the BBD and to the recovery diet. I was found intolerant to many foods, including all dairy products, all grains (except millet) and eggs. Although I have been on the BBD for two years now, as soon as I eliminated the foods I am intolerant to, I felt a big difference. Here are some of her suggstions to me:
- have a vegetable juice every morning + 1-2 tablespoons of seseme or linseed or sunflower oil. I use 2-3 different vegetables each time (from my list of permitted foods).
- have lean meat or fish or legumes (a safe food for me) almost in every meal. (I have been a vegetarian for long, I am skinny and I need protein energy)
- have 1-2 different kinds of nuts every day (for healthy oils). Fortunately I am permitted almost all nuts and I love them.
- have a tablespoon of whey protein every day (I found a lactose-free brand). I mix it with my morning vegetable juice.
- soak a teaspoon of linseeds in a glass of water and drink it in the morning. It is disgusting but helps with constipation.
I have been on this diet for 20 days and feel great
Hope this helps.

Hi Joyce. So sorry to hear

Hi Joyce. So sorry to hear you are not feeling great at the momment. First off, it sounds as if you are not getting enough protein, i know how much easier it seems to not eat, but believe me, you can do more harm than good, also, you could be reacting to something in your smoothies, so that won`t help you either. If you have only just started the diet, persevere, it really does take a lot of time, and most of all, patience. I feel as if i`m on a bit of a mission here, as i seem to be on here every day, but i really want to help as many people as possible, because i know it will work! ( incidently, loved your previous post!!). I`m 6 months in. At the time before i started the diet ( I now say lifestyle, change, diet puts weight loss in the brain and depravation!) i was severly depressed, totally lacking energy and ready for a wheelchair full time, but that was the view of medical staff, not mine, they were amazed i was getting about at all, but i am a very determined person, so giving in was`nt in my nature. Now i can honestly say i`m a different person, don`t get me wrong, i still can`t walk unaided, but small subtle changes have occured, enough to spur me on. I`m looking forward to a hospital visit next month to let them see my changes!! Also never forget Ann and Judi are always there for support, don`t be afraid to contact them, they have been a tower of strength for me, especially when i`ve had the doubts you yourself are having, this is natural, so don`t worry.
Keep going and always get on here and ask whatever you like, we`re all in this together.
regards Sarah.
